A Posture of Joy
"There is something countercultural about the posture of joy."
Mark Sayers, author of The Disappearing Church (and its more hopeful sequel, The Reappearing Church)
If you're like most of us, it's not easy "count it all joy" in the midst of trials (James 1:2). To be sure, 2020, 2021, and now, 2022, have had their share of trials!
Mark Sayers, recently discussed leadership postures for a new season. "Postures" allow us to implement appropriate practices in an era of constantly changing circumstances. He challenged Christians to maintain a posture of joy in the midst of a culture that yearns for the feeling of happiness and the next dopamine hit (from eating a donut, getting likes on social media, etc.). Sayers says that asking God to move us from "an earthly happiness determined by circumstances" will enable us to "plug back into the source of intimacy with Jesus and recalibrate ourselves to a heavenly standard."
"When we are close to to the Vine," Sayers argues, "there is joy."
So, if you are up for another challenge, ask Jesus to help you grow in the area of joy!
