Day Six

Isaiah 6
“And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled. The holy seed is its stump.” Isaiah 6:13
Remnant, light that is not seen, and Jesus’ prayer of “Not my will, but yours be done” are concepts that God placed on my heart to wrestle through. Reading Isaiah’s commissioning in chapter six reminds me of these concepts.
It resonates with the sense of loss I have felt within the church, surviving personal loss in the last few years, and Caleb moving on to college. However, the vision of the holy seed sprouting out from the remaining stump gives hope and assurance—of Christ, who at the time, was yet to come. A sentiment summed up well by a quote from Brother Lawrence, a 17th-century monk, “Afflictions, from His sovereign hand, Are blessings in disguise."
I find it very hard to live out these truths, but I have found them to be true in our journey to, through, and out of Cambodia. However, I find that it is more challenging to live out with each passing day—to desire God’s will over my own.
