John 12:35-36
“The light is among you for a little white longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of the light.”
John 12:35-36
John 12:35-36
In this season of Advent, looking for peace in this world of chaos can be difficult. While Jesus is predicting his death to a crowd, He offers his advice, to seek out the light. The light is among us, but we have to seek him out. Before I was a believer, I was walking aimlessly looking for purpose and direction. I was stubborn to listen to His calling. I had a lot of friends praying for me and asking me to join them for church. I refused, and politely said, “No, thank you." God continued to try to get my attention with several near death experiences, many involving car accidents. He finally got my attention.
After being injured as a result of another driver being shot, I finally decided to give my life over to Christ. We are operating on borrowed time and I knew that God was trying to get my attention, and I needed to walk into the light before it fades out. I wanted to feel the joy that I was lacking in my life. I was looking for direction, and completeness. I know that I continue to sin and come up short in the eyes of God. It’s not enough to be in the light, I have to continue to seek it out and make sure that the light stays on.
Our lives are filled with chaos. The light that Jesus shines gives us the peace and comfort we need. I have to trust that the light will guide us. I walked in the darkness that Jesus warned of. Advent is the promise of the coming of Christ. There is only so much time before that ship sails and we can miss the boat. I also find comfort that I would never have found the light if I was not in the darkness. At times I still feel lost, not knowing where I am going, but know that He is in control, and that once in the light, it will not dim.
